THE DECEPTION OF THE OCCULT IN HARRY POTTER

(Photo: Harry Potter in a bookstore. Click for source.)
On June 30, 1997, thousands of copies of the first Harry Potter book filled the shelves of bookstores in the U.K. (1). Since then, over 450 million copies of Harry Potter books have been sold worldwide and the eight Harry Potter movies have raked in $7.7 billion at the box office worldwide (2). Yet, sadly many Christians have bought into the lie that these books and movies are just harmless entertainment.

It started when the kids back in 1997 became crazy over the first Harry Potter books, wanting what their friends told them were “good” books. Parents watched their kids reading the thick volumes and were glad to see the children doing something they thought of as “more productive” and “educational” than just playing video games or watching TV.

HARRY POTTER EXPOSED

Harry Potter books are not educational in a good sense nor are they just for entertainment. The late David J. Meyer, a former witch (or warlock), wrote this regarding Harry Potter books (3):

(Photo: Harry Potter and the Prisoner of Azkaban. Source.)
“As a former witch, I can speak with authority when I say that I have examined the works of Rowling and that the Harry Potter books are training manuals for the occult. Untold millions of young people are being taught to think, speak, dress and act like witches by filling their heads with the contents of these books. Children are obsessed with the Harry Potter books that they have left television and video games to read these witchcraft manuals.
The first book of the series, entitled "Harry Potter and the Sorcerer’s Stone", finds the orphan, Harry Potter, embarking into a new realm when he is taken to "Hogwart’s School of Witchcraft and Wizardry." At this occult school, Harry Potter learns how to obtain and use witchcraft equipment. Harry also learns a new vocabulary, including words such as "Azkaban", "Circe", "Draco", "Erised", "Hermes", and "Slytherin"; all of which are names of real devils or demons. These are not characters of fiction!
How serious is this? By reading these materials, many millions of young people are learning how to work with demon spirits. They are getting to know them by name. Vast numbers of children professing to be Christians are also filling their hearts and minds, while willingly ignorant parents look the other way.” (3) (See Works Cited.)

The names of characters in Harry Potter books are the actual names of demons that real witches and occultists deal with. This is serious! God forbids witchcraft and the occult in His Holy Word.

Deuteronomy 18:10-12 (bold added)
10 There shall not be found among you any one that maketh his son or his daughter to pass through the fire, or that useth divination, or an observer of times, or an enchanter, or a witch.
11 Or a charmer, or a consulter with familiar spirits, or a wizard, or a necromancer.
12 For all that do these things are an abomination unto the Lord: and because of these abominations the Lord thy God doth drive them out from before thee.

All types of witchcraft (sorcery in any form) are an abomination to God! God will hold people accountable for their choices regarding their families (what they allow their kids to watch, read, and play) and regarding themselves.

2 Corinthians 5:10: “For we must all appear before the judgment seat of Christ; that every one may receive the things done in his body, according to that he hath done, whether it be good or bad.”

This is serious. We cannot overstate how serious this is. Many professing “Christians” have said that Harry Potter is “innocent” and “harmless”. Both statements are lies. Harry Potter is neither innocent, nor harmless.

“ERISED” AND “SCRYING”

Stephen Dollins, a man who left Satanism (he was a “high Satanist priest”) and got saved through the Lord Jesus Christ, revealed the occult in Harry Potter books in a video entitled “Under the Spell of Harry Potter.” In the video, Dollins referred to a picture of a librarian showing kids a mirror based on the mirror of “Erised” from the Harry Potter books (4):

“And this is a mirror from the book, Harry Potter and the Sorcerer’s Stone. It is the mirror of Erised. And, the mirror of Erised, it is said...it is a way of divination to where you can look into this mirror and it will show you your heart’s desire.
(Photo: Scrying mirror. Source.)
And, you can also communicate with spirits through this mirror. And, it is said that the spirits will communicate back to you out of this mirror. Now in the occult, there is an actual practice of that. It's called scrying. And what they tell you to do is to sit in front of a mirror and you begin to concentrate on the face of that mirror.
Sometimes, they will take a candle and light it in front of the mirror and concentrate on the flame, trying to see through there, and it is said that you will be able to see the past and the present and the future, and that you can also contact and communicate with spirits through...the face of that mirror. So, you can imagine children now being told that and ... sitting in front of mirrors, trying to conjure up spirits.” (4)

Real witches today use mirrors for “scrying” or gaining special knowledge and fortune-telling (5). The evil witch from the Disney film used her magic mirror also for “scrying” or gaining special knowledge about who was the “fairest in the land.” In Lord of the Rings, wizards use scrying devices include palantíri (singular palantír) or “seeing stones.” (6).

These occultic objects and themes have been prevalent in many movies, cartoons, and books (for both adults and kids). Sadly, parents have not only allowed them into their homes, but have encouraged their kids to read books such as The Lord of the Rings, The Chronicles of Narnia, and Harry Potter.

DECEPTION IN THE CHURCH

Well-known, but deceived “Christian men” of influence have promoted Harry Potter. Mark Greene, Director of the London Institute for Contemporary Christianity, wrote:  “I wish I'd been the one to introduce her [his god-daughter] to Harry—fine lad you know, courageous, resourceful…” (7).

(Photo: Ghosts from Harry Potter. Source.)
The truth is that Harry Potter is full of real occult elements, objects, entities, and witchcraft. Ghosts are prevalent in the books. The “Hogwart’s School of Witchcraft and Wizardry” has four “houses” with a “house ghost” for each: the Bloody Baron ghost of the Slytherin House, the Fat Friar ghost of the Hufflepuff House, the Grey Lady ghost of the Ravenclaw House, and the Sir Nicholas ghost of the Gryffindor House (8) (see Works Cited at the end).

Harry Potter communicates with the Grey Lady ghost (8) in the books—a practice which is known as necromancy. God forbids necromancy, which is speaking with spirits who claim to be spirits of the dead (Deuteronomy 18:10-12). These are evil spirits, devils, or demons. They serve the fallen angel Lucifer who rebelled against God (Isaiah 14:12-17). God cast him and all his followers out of Heaven and changed Lucifer’s name to Satan (Revelation 12:7-11).

Satan is deceiving many Christians today with movies, TV shows, books, video games, false doctrines, false teachers, etc. to lead people away from the One True God. Satan hates God and anyone who serves God. Will you let Satan deceive you and lead you down the broad path of destruction? Or, will you choose to seek and serve God, and deny yourself, take up your cross, and follow God?

Jesus Christ said this to his followers…

Luke 14:25-27
25 And there went great multitudes with him: and he turned, and said unto them,
26 If any man come to me, and hate not his father, and mother, and wife, and children, and brethren, and sisters, yea, and his own life also, he cannot be my disciple.
27 And whosoever doth not bear his cross, and come after me, cannot be my disciple.
Luke 14:33
33 So likewise, whosoever he be of you that forsaketh not all that he hath, he cannot be my disciple.

God will hold us accountable for what we have learned and know. Please make the right choice today. Serving God requires total submission to Jesus Christ and a humble, servant’s heart. We need to ask God to help us have those things so we can truly serve Him. God will help us if we look to Him and repent from sin that He convicts us about. God bless you as you make the right choice.

Would you like to find out how to Know God's Name Personally?

IF YOU ARE SEEKING TO KNOW GOD, please read this message.

1 Timothy 2:5: “For there is one God, and one mediator between God and men, the man Christ Jesus;”
Acts 4:12: “Neither is there salvation in any other: for there is none other name under heaven given among men, whereby we must be saved.”
Ephesians 2:8-98 For by grace are ye saved through faith; and that not of yourselves: it is the gift of God:9 Not of works, lest any man should boast.

God loves us so much that He sent His Only Begotten Son, Jesus Christ, to die for our sins and shed His precious blood to pay for all of these sins. It is not by any works of ours that we are saved (Ephesians 2:8-9). (See John 3:16; and 1 Corinthians 15:3-5; and Romans 5:8-11.)

If you repent (turn away) from your sins (Acts 3:19), looking to God for help; and believe and confess aloud that Christ has paid for all your sins and washed them away (Romans 10:9-10); and have made Him your personal Lord and Savior (again Romans 10:9-10) you are saved.

When you make Jesus Christ your Lord and Savior, you are choosing to look to Him for help in repenting (turning away) from sins. God will help you to repent from sin as you look to Him and make the choice to do what is right and not what is wrong.

Seek God with all your heart. Seek to know Him and you will (Jeremiah 29:13). God wants to have a personal relationship with each one of us (through Jesus Christ our Savior and Lord).

Again, remember to repent whenever you are convicted about sin so that you can grow closer to Jesus Christ as you seek Him. Please also remember, you are not saved by works but by the precious blood of Jesus Christ. Repentance is necessary for walking with God and getting close to Him. Willfully refusing to repent (when God convicts you about sin) is hardness of heart (see Hebrews 3).

John 17:3: "And this is life eternal, that they might know thee the only true God, and Jesus Christ, whom thou hast sent.”
Jeremiah 29:13: “And ye shall seek me, and find me, when ye shall search for me with all your heart.”
John 14:6: “Jesus saith unto him, I am the way, the truth, and the life: no man cometh unto the Father, but by me.”
Acts 4:12: “Neither is there salvation in any other: for there is none other name under heaven given among men, whereby we must be saved.”
